Raccoon PD Memorial

Leftovers! Man do I love them. Not only do they taste great in gravy, but they look pretty good hanging on the wall too.

My very first Resident Evil build (T-Virus Transporter) produced a lot of leftovers. Mostly because I only had the fringes of the vision of my idea. Those leftovers lead to the T-Virus Tracker and Regenerate Qi Charger, which produced even more leftovers, giving me the materials for the final build of this Resident Evil series. This is a commemorative memorial shadow box display case for a Raccoon City Police Officer. I chose the Raccoon PD because although there is a ton of S.T.A.R.S. PD memorabilia, there just isn't for the basic Raccoon City Police Officer. They are kind of under-sung heroes. Or, more like, meat for the grinder. They really didn't stand much of a chance.

So the first left over is an old Airsoft 1911 Replica from Black Ops.

For those of you that think it's quite the bargain, don't bother. It was quite the piece of junk. However, it serves our purposes quite nicely hear.

I also added an aggressive looking knife to the project.

Of course the first part of this endeavor is to tear the Airsoft down. I stripped it of all paint and gave it a proper cold bluing, as all guns should be. I did run into one small problem, and that was the slide. Apparently the slide was aluminum, so cold bluing wouldn't work.

I picked these up for the grips.

Seemed like the right fit to me. Who doesn't want customized umbrella corporation grips on their Airsoft 1911 replica. As for the slide, I decided a proper coat of flat black paint and decals would allow for jut the right look.

Now this is a real metal badge. I tried to stay as close to realistic as I could. I honestly don't recall the cost, but I believe it was over $15.00. So it was a little pricey.

Now, the next thing I had to come up with were a couple of medals. Our hero would have had a few. So I got a few on the cheap.

I think it's really neat what you can find online. Of course the medals needed to be more appropriate than that...

I felt the St. Michaels Policeman Medal of Honor would be good ('Cause, of course it is). Along with similar recognition from Umbrella Corp.

And all of this had to be mounted on the right background.

I found the 1969 Raccoon Police Department insignia online. Manipulated it a little bit to show R.P.D. and printed it up as an Iron On. Applying the 'Iron On' to a properly colored bandana completed the look.

Time to lay it all out and mount it. (during this, I found some red, white and blue ribbon to add)

Yeah, looks boring though doesn't it. Just doesn't scream Zombie Apocalypse! Maybe some bullet holes...

Using a pattern I printed up, I traced it with Hot Glue. Up close, it clearly looks like hot glue, but from a couple of feet away, those are bullet holes. And of course, a little red paint for a bloody hand print. I applied these directly to the inside of the glass only.

For a final touch, I printed up a few newspaper clippings from the Raccoon City News. You can find the 3 page pdf by googling raccooncitynews.pdf.

Naturally I had to add that one last bit of corporate fluff from the Umbrella Corporation.
